At 25 a face loses little and a syringe of filler fixes a specific wish. After 35 the problem is different: the skin thins, the fat pads shrink and the whole lower face drifts. Filler alone starts to look wrong there. This is where biostimulators come in.
Filler: volume now
Hyaluronic acid filler is a gel that sits where it is placed. It is perfect for defined shapes: lips, chin, jawline, cheekbone, a deep fold. It is visible immediately and can be dissolved. It does not improve the skin itself.
Biostimulators: collagen later
Radiesse (calcium hydroxyapatite) and RichPL or Sculptra-type products (PLLA, poly-L-lactic acid) are not volume gels. They are injected diluted across a whole area, where they trigger your body to make collagen for months. The result is firmer, thicker, better-draped skin: the jawline sharpens, the cheeks stop sagging, the neck and hands look younger. It takes six to twelve weeks to show, and lasts 18 to 24 months.
Who needs which
A specific shape to add or correct: filler. Loose, thin, tired skin over a whole area: biostimulator. Both at once, in most faces over 35: a small amount of filler for structure, a biostimulator to rebuild the canvas. This combination is why Dr. Sara’s results are described as “rested” rather than “done”.
The catch
Biostimulators cannot be dissolved. They need an injector who knows the anatomy and uses conservative, well-diluted amounts. Hands, neck, décolleté, jawline, temples and cheeks are safe zones; lips and under-eye are never treated with them.
Quick answers
Does Radiesse replace a facelift?
No. It improves skin quality and mild to moderate laxity. Significant sagging is a surgical conversation, and Dr. Sara, as a plastic surgeon, will tell you honestly.
How many biostimulator sessions?
Radiesse: one to two. PLLA: two to three, four to six weeks apart. Then a maintenance session every 18 to 24 months.
Can I have filler and a biostimulator on the same day?
Yes, in different layers and areas. Dr. Sara plans this in your consultation.
