Botox aftercare, simply.

What to avoid in the first four hours, the first day and the first two weeks after Botox, and why the two-week check matters.

Botox · 2 min · Dr. Sara El Hamawy · October 2026

Botox aftercare is short and simple, but the first few hours matter because the product is still settling into the muscle you want and not the one next to it.

First 4 hours

Stay upright; do not lie down or nap. Do not rub, press or massage the treated area. No face-down treatments, no tight headbands or helmets. You may gently frown and raise your brows; some injectors ask for it to help uptake.

First 24 hours

No heavy exercise, hot yoga, sauna, steam or sunbed. No alcohol. Avoid blood-thinning painkillers such as aspirin or ibuprofen unless prescribed; paracetamol is fine. Wash your face gently and skip facials, peels and microneedling for a week.

Days 3 to 14

The effect appears from day three and is complete at two weeks. A mild headache in the first days is common and passes. Small bruises are possible and can be covered with make-up from the next day.

The 2-week check

Dr. Sara sees every patient at two weeks. Faces are not symmetrical and one side often needs a unit or two more. Do not judge the result, or ask for more, before this visit.

Call us if

A brow or eyelid feels heavy after day five, your smile is uneven, or anything worries you. These are uncommon, temporary, and we would rather see you than have you wait.
